Good News

The test today went well; the tech said she saw nothing unusual, and the doctors now get their chance to look at the ultrasound. Still, it's a huge and very emotional relief for Steph and I. I don't have time to say much more than that.

This is indeed good news. Prayers will continue to flow your way as you guys wait any further developments and whether or not to go through with the 'vaz'.

As someone who has been through it, it is not that bad...as long as the person performing the procedure remembers that you are a man and not a cow with so many utters to pull on. Enough said.

I'll note the udder analogy when I talk to the urologist next time. All of this reminds me of how often women have to go through embarassing procedues as a matter of routine.

The Widow of Saint-Pierre

My wife and I are great netflix fans. Our small town does have a video store, but nothing that compares to netflix. I can pick from thousands of dvd's, and there are no late fees! Commercial over. If you watch a lot of films, I recommend checking it out. We just watched a movie called The Widow of Saint-Pierre . Do I recommend it? Loosely. Thumbs sideways pointing slightly up. The film is about capital punishment, really, and I'm glad my wife and I didn't get in too deep a discussion after. She is an ardent opponent. So much so that she has told me if she is ever murdered, she does not want the killer executed. Impressive, almost unbelievable, to me. And there's the issue: I don't actually have a position on capital punishment. I've never had to think about it much. Students have written pro and con papers on the topic many times over the years (one advantage of teaching Freshman composition: I get a varied education reading those essays)...

A Few Thoughts on St. Paul, Gays, Women, and ECUSA

First, I saw this film on the independent film channel, and I don't know if netflix has it, but I highly recommend Pack, Strap, Swallow. It's a docmentary shot inside a women's prison in Ecuador; it's about English speaking women from all over the world used as mules to run drugs, caught and incarcerated, and it's deeply moving. Yeah Cars was okay, so was Over the Hedge; but if time is an issue, skip everything at the theatre this week and get a hold of this documentary. Second, the Episcopal church is in the public again for the divisions resulting from the national conference. Yes, 'we' elected a female presiding bishop; the 'apology' for Bishop Robinson wasn't quite enough. I am told, though, that the Archbibshop of Canterbury himself supports the ECUSA theologically but is obviously, and understandably, desperate to hold together the worldwide communion.
